Helen Tandy Breedlove

Helen Tandy Breedlove, 97, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2010.  Helen was born on her parent’s farm near Brownsville on January 14, 1913.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, wonderful grandmother, and great grandmother.  She has gone to join her loved ones and her many friends in the presence of our Lord.
Helen graduated from San Benito High School and from Texas Women’s University.    She was an elementary teacher in Los Fresnos Schools and after the death of her husband she managed the Breedlove Insurance Agency.  When in her 60s she went to TSC Nursing School and graduated as valedictorian of her class then working at Dolly Vincent Hospital for several years.  Helen was an adventurer and traveled to Israel on numerous occasions for extended stays volunteering and working with church groups, hospitals, and archaeological digs.  She was a bible scholar and teacher and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos for over 70 years.  She was an artist, photographer, and historian.
She was known as “Dodie” to family and grandchildren to whom she loved to share and show nature and the outdoors where she lived.   She continued to travel and visit family until she was 90 and no longer able.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ura J. Breedlove, and her daughters, Marjorie Breedlove and Gerry George.  She is survived by her son, Cleve Breedlove (Rosemary), grandchildren, Rhonda Chalfant, Robert Tate Biersack (Teresa), Shelby Myatt (Kent), Christopher George (Suzanne), Jesse Breedlove (Julie), Heidi Hancock (Dan), great-grandchildren, Callie Beth Chalfant, Dylan Chalfant, Amy Chalfant, Sean Cain, Annie Cain, Sammy Cain, William Myatt, Mason Hancock, and Kira Hancock.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, from 1 PM to 9 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, Texas.
Graveside services only will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 9 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010.  A memorial service will follow at the First Baptist Church, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Los Fresnos, Texas with Pastors Eddie Sanchez and George Morrison officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jim Tandy, Jesse Breedlove, Christopher George, Tate Biersack, Dan Hancock, and Kent Myatt.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Los Fresnos, UTB/TSC Nursing School (956-882-4324), or a charity of your choice.
