Hazel (Bryan) Wright, age 92, died on May 12, 2007, at her home in Harlingen, Texas, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born April 12, 1915, at what is now known as Bryan’s Corner, Oklahoma, and spent her early years at Perryton, Texas, with her parents, W.C. and Beulah Bryan, brothers Wesley and Louis and sisters Loucile Shorb and Pauline Fleck all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Evaline Hinds of Nebraska.
Hazel graduated from Perryton High School with academic honors and attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University where she met the love of her life, George W. Wright. George and Hazel were married June 23, 1934, at Perryton and made their home on the family farm near the little town of Optima in the Oklahoma Panhandle, later living in Guymon, Oklahoma. Her entire life, love and talents were dedicated to her family and friends.
After George’s death in 1987, Hazel began spending winter months with daughter, Margaret (Bill) Fabian, while maintaining her home in Guymon near her son Bryan (Donna) Wright. In later years as her health failed she gave up her home and became a permanent resident of Harlingen, Texas.
Hazel was a faithful and dedicated member of Victory Memorial Methodist Church in Guymon. She also attended and supported St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Port Isabel when in Texas. She was a member of the Guymon Chapter, Order of Eastern Star for more than 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, grandson, Bryan Lee Wright, Jr., and great granddaughter, Aimee Lee Wright.
Surviving to mourn her are Margaret and Bill Fabian, Bryan and Donna Wright, grandson Robert Christopher Wright of Guymon, granddaughter Stephanie (John) Hughes of Topeka, Kansas, grandson William Gregory (Lisa) Wright of Overland Park, Kansas, granddaughter Dr. Carol J. Fabian (Steve Roweton) of Kansas City, and Bill E. (Nancy) Fabian, Jr., of Burke, Virginia, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Also surviving is her sister Evaline Hinds of Nebraska and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wright of Guymon and Margaret P. Wright of Oklahoma City, counted as her dearest friends.
The family extends special thanks and appreciation for the devotion of caregivers Lolly Gonzalez, Minnie Alfaro, and Eva Alfaro through the years and the hospice staff for their aid and comfort to all.
Local services will be held at St. Andrew’s in Port Isabel on Monday, May 14, 2007, at 1 P.M. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, and a memorial service will be held at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 11 A.M.
The family suggests memorial contribution to Victory Memorial Methodist Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of charity of choice.
