Hattie Jo “Jodi” Hill went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2025, at the age of 79. She passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with illness.
Jodi was born on March 22, 1945, in Beaumont, Texas, to Jennings and Mary Oakes. She graduated from French High School and later earned her degree from Lamar University, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. It was during her time at Lamar that she met the love of her life, Robert Glenn Hill. They married in 1966 and embarked on a journey spanning 58 years, filled with love, adventure, and unwavering devotion to family.
As the dedicated wife of a United States Marine, Jodi gracefully embraced the demands of military life, moving frequently and creating a warm and loving home for her family through Glenn’s many deployments. Following his retirement, Jodi and Glenn settled in Harlingen, Texas, where she became an active and cherished member of the community. She was deeply involved in the Marine Military Academy, the First Methodist Church, and P.E.O. Chapter FY, where she served as a past president.
Jodi’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She found great joy in singing with the First Methodist Church choir and dedicating her time to the church’s children’s programs. She was also a devoted Girl Scout leader, guiding and mentoring both her daughter and granddaughter through their scouting journeys.
She loved to travel, particularly on cruises with dear friends, and she treasured the monthly gatherings of her beloved “Bunco Babes.” Some of her happiest moments were spent in Beaumont, reconnecting with family and lifelong friends.
Jodi was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings and Mary Oakes, and her brother, J.B. Oakes. She is survived by her devoted husband, Glenn; her loving children, Stacey Hill and Daren Hill; her cherished granddaughters, Taylor Smith and Bailey Smith; and her dear nieces, Terry Paine and Glenda Davis (Dwayne).
A celebration of Jodi’s life will be held on March 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First Methodist Church in Harlingen, Texas, with a reception to follow at the church. Interment will be April 8, 2025, at 10am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetary in San Antonio.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Valley Baptist Medical Center for their compassionate care during Jodi’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jodi’s memory to the Children’s Bereavement Center-RGV, Loaves and Fishes, or the Marine Military Academy.
