Harry H. Shimotsu

March 9, 1920 — November 30, 2013

La Feria, Texas
Harry Haruo Shimotsu,  93, beloved widower of Machiko H. Shimotsu,  passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 30, 2013 to join his most precious Machi in eternal life.    Born in Hidalgo, Texas, he was the last surviving member of the six children of Uichi and Takako Shimotsu. Harry was born a farmer and was involved in farming for his entire life.  His guiding principles were service to God as a good and faithful servant; service to his wife and family as a devoted husband and father; service to his country as a WWII veteran, and service to the land that provided him his livelihood.  Harry had a strong belief in the value of working hard.  He also had a strong belief in the importance of an education and a passionate quest for knowledge.  He humbly accepted and cherished the honor of having an elementary school named after him.  He served his community and was thankful that he had participated in the gleaning of the fields after harvest for charitable organizations when he was employed at Sharyland Farms (Hunt Valley Development).
He is survived by his four children:  Grace, Gary, Karen, and Ron (Roxanna) Shimotsu and their children/his grandchildren, Geoffrey and Lauren.   It is important to include his nieces and nephews each of whom he had fond memories.
He was preceded in death by Machiko, his precious wife of 60 years; his brothers Kenneth, Calvin, Akio and his sisters Amy Shimotsu and Dorothy Nagai.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sharyland I.S.D. Education Foundation, in memory of Harry Shimotsu, Harry Shimotsu Elementary Attn: Dr. Virginia N. Richter, 1106 N. Shary Road Mission Texas 78572 or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service and burial will be Saturday, December 7, 2013, 10:00 AM at Restlawn Memorial Park 14166 Business 83, La Feria, Texas 78559.
