H.W. (Bill) Phillips
Harlingen, Texas:
Hughlet W. (Bill) Phillips, 90, completed his journey and went Home on Friday, July 1st, 2011. Born in Bonham, TX on October 21st, 1920, Bill grew up in North Texas and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, including tours in Germany and France. While stationed in San Antonio, he met and married the love of his life, Margie; they shared the next 67 years together until she preceded him in death in November 2009. They moved to Harlingen in 1948 where they raised their family together. Bill owned and operated Bill’s Pump Service for over 50 years and served as a deacon at both Calvary Baptist & First Baptist Church of Harlingen.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Betty and Sue; his son Bill; five grand-daughters Peggy, Suzi, Lauren, Abby & Natalie; three grandsons Andy, Dusty and Terry; one nephew and several nieces.
The family wants to express special thanks to the doctors & staff of Sesame Clinic, the staff of Harlingen Nursing Center, and all those who took the time to bring joy and comfort by visiting.
A memorial service will be held at Buck Ashcraft on Tuesday, July 5th at 7 p.m., officiated by Bill’s long-time friend, Rev. Riley Rice.
