Gwendolyn Lou Norris was born February 7, 1919 in Honey Grove, Texas to Tommy Wilburn Carter and Martha Jane Porter and passed away October 9, 2010 at the age of 91 in Harlingen, TX.
She moved to the Rio Grande Valley when she was four years old. She weathered the 1933 Hurricane. Gwendolyn married James Sylvester Norris on November 14, 1934 and they farmed together in the Harlingen area until his death in 1994. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen, TX, a wonderful cook and had a passion for hunting and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her spouse, James Sylvester Norris; daughter, Jean Lou Morris; son, Charles D. Norris; infant son, Terry Wayne Norris; grandson, Robert C. Morris, Jr. and brother, Charles Weldon Carter.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy L. (Jenney) Norris of Sinton, TX and daughter, Janice C. Reed of Georgetown, TX. She leaves behind her grandchildren, David (Dawn) Morris of Helena, Montana, Laura (Steve) Quate of Keller, TX, Paul Morris of Wichita Falls, TX, Charles W. (Bettie) Norris of Marble Falls, TX, Melissa (Roger) Kapp of Dallas, TX, Lonnie (Ashley) Reed of Round Rock, TX, Gwendolyn Reed of Georgetown, TX, and Les Norris Of Leander, TX; and sixteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Young of Houston, TX; son-in-law, Robert C. Morris of Wichita Falls, TX and daughter-in-law, Martha D. Norris of Livingston, TX.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2010, 11 a.m., at Harlingen-Combes Cemetery in Combes, TX.
