Guy Austin Woodward

December 16, 1924 — July 5, 2011

Guy Woodward Jr. entered eternal rest on July 5, 2011 at age 86.  Born and raised in Mineral Wells he was the eldest Son of Guy Sr. and Evelyn Woodward.  He is survived by his special friend Joni Daniels; daughter Candace Perkins & husband Charlie; son Scott & wife Anita; one brother Larry & wife Marlene; brother in-law Dan Boone; sister in-law Mary Dzierski & husband Anthony. Grandchildren Lisa Frittz & husband Ronnie;  Angela VanZandt & Kim Walters; Jay VanZandt & wife Misti; Bryan Woodward, Amy Jones, Megan and Jennifer.  Seven great grandchildren Rachel, Kaitlyn, & Cameron Fritz; Austin. Ethan and Brooklyn VanZandt:  Mico Jones.  He is preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, and eldest son Michael; and two sisters Linda Boone and Sara Drennin.
Guy was a professional musician and trumpet player from age 16.  He served in the Army from 1943 – 1946 in Frankfurt, Germany and was honorably discharged.  He was assigned to the Special Services Dance Band to entertain dignitaries and the allied troops.  He worked with the USO entertainers which was broadcast from Frankfurt and was present for many activities for General Eisenhower.   The Guy Woodward Dance Band was formed and many relatives including his father entertained the Ft. Worth community with Big Band Music some of which he composed.   During the same time he joined WBAP in 1948 selling and managing for over 39 years.  Guy and wife Charlotte retired to the Rio Grande Valley in 1987; built a home and played golf almost every day.  He was a member of Treasure Hills Golf Club, Sunshine CC Men’s Golf Association where he had two “Hole in One” achievements. South Padre Island was his perfect hang out spot, fishing, long walks and lying on the beach. “The Finish Line” came sooner than we expected; we will miss your smile, great sense of humor, enthusiasm and zest for life.
Visitation will held on, Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Harlingen-Combes Cemetery in Combes, TX with Danny Mann officiating.  The family requests to dress casual and come as you are.
