Guadalupe B. Rivas

September 13, 1933 — September 10, 2021

Guadalupe B. Rivas, 87, peacefully passed from this life into the arms of his Savior and Lord on September 10, 2021.  He was born to the late José Guadalupe and Dolores Rivas on September 13, 1933 in San Benito, Texas.

Guadalupe faithfully served for over 40 years as Deacon at Primera Iglesia Bautista of San Benito.  He was also a lay preacher and led services for many years at a house church in Arroyo Colorado Estates.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading his Bible, playing his harmonica, singing praise and worship songs, painting, arts & crafts, carpentry.  He loved his entire family and treasured the time he would spend with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Juan Rivas, Esteban Rivas, Nico Rivas, Salvador Rivas; his sisters, Flora Rivas, Maria Rivas; son-in-law, José Manuel Angulo; four unborn grandchildren; 3 unborn great-grandchildren; nephews, Gilbert Rivas, Junior Rivas, Juan “Nuno” Rivas Jr.; and niece, Norma Rivas.

Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife, Agustina G. Rivas; children, Juan (Christine) Rivas, Isidro (Dolores) Rivas, Reynaldo (Ester) Rivas, Jose Guadalupe (Janie) Rivas, Esmeralda (†Jose) Angulo, Hilda (José) Mejía, Blanca Rivas, and Rene (Virginia) Rivas.

Guadalupe was blessed with 25 grandchildren: Juan Jesús, Mallorie, Nephi, Michael, Elias, Mosiah, Melanie, Sariah, Isidro Jr., Crystal, Joshua, Elizabeth (Juan Jr.), Rey Jr., Gracie (Zainal), Joe Jr. (Ana), Ashley, Jose Jr., Veronica (Melvin Jr.), Jessica (Ruben), Michelle, Geneva, Katie (Daniel), Rene Jr., Leah, and Noah. He is also survived by 33 great-grandchildren: Malachi, Olivia, Bella, Jayden, Ava, Micah, Eliana, Madison, Augustina, Elijah, Angelica, Sabrina, Elijah, David Jr., EJ, Malaki, Hailey, Angel, Xavier, Trinity, Richard, Melynda, Destiny, Christine, Joey, Genesis, Ziannah, Nevanna, Niallani, Aaliyah, Mariah, Melvin III, and Adrianna.

He also leaves behind his sister, Minga Rivas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rivas family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A prayer service will begin at 6:00 p.m. (Click the link below to view the prayer service online.) A funeral service will take place Monday, September 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, Chapel A. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Isidro “Jr” Rivas, Elizabeth Rivas, Joe Rivas Jr., Juan Jesus Rivas Jr., Jose Angulo Jr., and Rene Rivas Jr.  Jessica Bejaran will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
