Guadalupe "Wally" Gutierrez
October 27, 1944 — April 9, 2017
Guadalupe “Wally” Gutierrez, 72, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 surrounded by his wife and loved ones.
Wally was born on October 27, 1944 and grew up and lived in Mercedes then remarried in 1987 and moved to San Benito where he lived happily the rest of his life. He worked for H&H Foods in Mercedes for more than 25 years as a Truck Driver and Dispatcher. After leaving H&H Foods, Wally worked for SMT Freight Motors and Swift Trucking Co. Eventually, he became owner and operator of his own trucking business- Wally’s Trucking. He drove all over the United States- from the East coast to the West coast and was known through his CB radio handle- “Rolling Star”. Wally was a hardworking, loving, caring, giving person who was always willing to help others. He was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, Godfather, uncle, and friend that will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Isabel Gutierrez, and sisters, Gloria Robledo, and Oralia “Lala” Sosa.
Wally is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 30 years, Aurora Gutierrez of San Benito; four children Nora Zavala of San Benito, Noe Gutierrez of San Benito, Dalia Gutierrez of Mercedes, and Guadalupe Gutierrez, Jr. (Judy) of Mercedes. Children, Melissa (Albert) Gonzalez of San Benito, Lalo (Blanca) Salomon of Boca Raton, Florida, and JD Salomon (Aurora) of Harlingen, two brothers, Inocencio (Oliviaᵻ) Gutierrez of Idalou, Texas, and Hector (Rosemary) Gutierrez, of El Campo, Texas, two sisters, Irma (Claudio) Garcia of Mercedes, Cira (Jay) Perez of Bertram, Texas, 23 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, and 11 nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are, Noe Gutierrez, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Jr., Abelardo Salomon, J.D. Salomon, Albert Gonzalez, and Domingo Joel Zavala.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017 with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito.
