Grant O. Snider

Grant O. Snider, 50, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007 at his residence in Harlingen.

Grant was born in Magnolia, AR on January 6, 1957.  He attended St. Paul Lutheran School thru K-6th, Coakley Jr. High 7th thru 9th and Harlingen High School 10th thru 12th.  While in school Grant played football, basketball and track.  He was a member of the Key Club, boy scouts and the National Honor Society.  Grant received the certificate of Athletic Scholastic Achievement from KRGV and was a member of the all Valley football team in 1974.

Grant also received an appointment to West Point Military Academy from Senator Tower and Senator Benson.  He attended West Point for 2 years and then transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1980.

He then went to South Africa and worked 5 years for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.  Returning to the US he started to work for GSA for 5 years in Ft Worth.  The he went to Pan American University for his teaching certificate and has been teaching ever since.  He has taught in Harlingen, Port Isabel, Lyford, San Perlita and presently San Benito.

Grant was a loving, kind, and thoughtful person and was always willing to help others in time of need.  He liked card games and watching his favorite TV program, Jeopardy where he could answer most of the questions before the contestants.

Grant is survived by his parents, Bruce and Catherine Snider, brother, Bryan (Jackie) Snider of Austin and niece, Katrin of Minnesota.

Pallbearers will be Johan Schwarz, Sam Simmons, Jeff Swanson, Wayne Swanson, Tim Webber and Clarence Kenney.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be made to  St. John's Lutheran Church, 1000 Crockett, San Benito, Texas 78556 or tothe charity of choice.

Grant will be missed by his mother, dad, brother, niece, friends and neighbors but not forgotten.
