Grace Schwartz died July 21, 2009 at the age of 95.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, she became a registered nurse after training at St. Barnabas Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey. After further training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, she became an operating room nurse, and worked in Chicago from 1935 to 1942. She married Dr. Bernard Schwartz from Chicago in 1942, and they moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1960. Grace remained there after being widowed in 1979 until 2003 when she moved to Golden Palms in Harlingen to be near family. A longstanding member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, she was active in Eastern Star and Shrine Widows Club. She enjoyed painting oils and watercolors, and was well known for her wit and sense of humor.
She is survived by her children, daughter Lorraine of Macomb, Illinois and her son, Stephen (Carolyn) of Harlingen. She is also survived by granddaughters Ann Marie (Dane) Schwartz Mosher of Kingsport, TN and Carol Schwartz of Houston as well as one great grandson Andrew Mosher.
The family appreciates the good care she received from the nursing staff at Golden Palms Health Care Center.
The family will receive friends at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home Friday, July 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be in Ft. Wayne, IN.
