Glen D. Trent

Dateline: Harlingen: Glen D. Trent, 91, passed away on Tuesday. April 17, 2007 at Harlingen Medical Center.  Glen was born May 19, 1915 in Hammon, OK to Minnie Lou Stinson Trent and John Irvin Trent.

He proudly served in the US Navy.  He was a signal man on a Merchant Marine Ship and crossed the Atlantic Ocean 22 times.  He spent most of his time in the Mediterranean Sea.

After leaving the Navy he received his Masters Degree in Education and moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1950 where be began his career.  He then dedicated 28 years to the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School System.  He was an Elementary School Principal for 21 years and Director of Federal Programs for 7 years.  He was principal at Clover, Sorenson, Carnahan and Eli Whitney.

He spent the majority of his years in the Valley in San Juan where he raised his family.  He was a member of the San Juan Lions Club where he held various offices and the San Benito Church of Christ.  After his retirement he moved to Arroyo City.  He spent many years fishing in his favorite flounder hole and her always had a good fish story to tell.  He then moved to Camelot and Canterbury Gardens in Harlingen where he was living at the time of his death.  He participated in many activities at Canterbury Cardens and was recently Resident of the Month.  Always whistling a tune, he had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and was loved by all who knew him.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Carroll and Albert Trent and wives, Addie Elizabeth, Marjorie and Carolyn.

He is survived by his children, Bobbie (Billy) Scaife and Glenda (Mark) Lee; step-children, Dr. Jim Edwards, Randy Edwards, Rickey Edwards, Joy Olree and Steve Woody; grandchildren, Candy (Cary) Bourggeois, Julie Archibald, Danny (Tammy) Archibald, Jennifer (Stephen) Hughes and Gina (Gabriel) Guajardo; 15 great grandchildren and special friend, Laura Buckley.
