Harlingen:
Gladys Marie (Mills) Long, 85, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011.
Gladys was born January 10, 1926 to Joseph and Cora Mills and had been a resident of Harlingen for 59 years.
Gladys was an employee with Bush Supply Company in Harlingen from 1952 until 1992.  During that 40 year period, she was a major contributor to the success and growth of Bush Supply Company as it became a leading multi-store distributor of electrical and plumbing products throughout the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico. Gladys was highly respected by her fellow employees, customers and manufacturers.
Gladys returned to the Electrical industry after her retirement from Bush Supply and was a valuable employee of Mid-Coast Electric Supply until her permanent retirement in 1999.
She is survived by her sons, James Roy (Virginia) Oakes of Harlingen and Carl Wesley (C.W.) Oakes of Marshall, TX; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother and daughter-in-law, Jeanie Oakes.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 25 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Gladys was a loving mother, and a good friend to all who knew her.  She always tried to help children in need, loved reading the Bible and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

The family wishes to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff of Harlingen Nursing Center for all their care, concern and devotion to Gladys.
