Gladys Evangeline Hanson, 96, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012 at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas.
Gladys was born on March 30, 1915 in Spooner, Minnesota to Phillip and Agnes Stenseng. She was Valedictorian of her high school class in Baudette, Minnesota and attended Bemidji Business School.
In 1941 she married Bertil Everett Hanson who was a career Air Force Officer attaining the rank of Colonel and they were stationed in many state side locations, as well as Germany.
Gladys was a longtime resident of Harlingen where she was a 58 year member of Grace Lutheran Church, member and former President of the Harlingen Garden Club and active with the Lutheran Women’s Organization. She loved to play Bridge, travel and tutor elementary school children in English.
She is survived by her children; Wayne Hanson and wife, Mary of Houston, TX, Carole Hanson of Austin, TX, Barbara Bronleewe and husband, Ted of Austin, TX, and Linda Gable and husband, Ken of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren; Kenneth Hanson and wife, Christina and their children, Noah and Chloe of Houston, TX, Jennifer Hanson Brown and husband, Kurt and their children, Kyle and Julia of Dallas, TX, Brian Hanson and wife, Becky of Dallas, TX, Alison Hanson Gorman and husband, Brian and their daughter, Shannon of Golden, CO, Jeff Bronleewe and wife, Tonya of Wichita, KS, David Bronleewe and wife, Heidi and their children, Anna, Brielle and Alivia of Dallas, TX, Josh Bronleewe of Nashville, TN, Daniel and Marissa Gable of Austin, TX; many nieces, nephews, cousins and of course many dear friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Bertil Hanson; mother, Agnes Stenseng; father, Phillip Stenseng; brother, Vernon Stenseng; sister, Bernice Carleton, and sister-in-law, Jean Stenseng.
Visitation hours will be held from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Harlingen, 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 16, 2012 with Pastor Ryan Pederson officiating.
A reception will follow the church services in the Fellowship Hall.
Graveside services will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
The family request that memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Alzheimers Association or to the charity of choice.
