Gilberto A. Sanchez, 85, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Harlingen Medical Center.
Gilberto was born February 4, 1926 in Tullio, Mexico to Martiano and Maria De La Luz Sanchez. Mr. Sanchez was employed by Lois Bourne of Sebastian for 25 years, where he farmed many acres of her land and retired in 1991. He enjoyed reading, woodworking projects, working outdoors and bingo.
Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his first wife, Amparo Sanchez and son, Gilberto Andres Sanchez, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maria Elva Sanchez of Sebastian, TX; sons, George (Isabel) Sanchez of Sebastian, TX, Aurelio Sanchez of North Carolina, Roberto (Cynthia) Sanchez of Sebastian, TX, Gerardo (Rebecca) Sanchez of Harlingen, TX; Armando (Diana) Sanchez of Sebastian, TX and Alberto Sanchez of Edinburg, TX; daughters, Juanita (Phil) Coleman of North Carolina, Georgina (Bruce) Mitchell of San Antonio, TX, Virginia Sanchez of Harlingen, TX and Elizabeth Rodriguez of Sebastian, TX; twenty-four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Sebastian, TX with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.
The funeral procession will depart Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church with Father Rafael Vega as celebrant. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery in Sebastian, TX.
Pallbearers will be Roberto Sanchez, Orlando Sanchez, Jaime Rodriguez, Gilberto Rodriguez, Stephen Uribe and Marcos Sanchez.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Harlingen Medical Center, Dr. George Cantu and the staff of Rio Grande Home Health and especially, Martha Garza, his home health care nurse.
