HARLINGEN, TX:
Gertrude Seward of Harlingen Texas, entered eternal rest on March 18, 2007, at the age of 91. Gertrude was born September 17, 1915, in Hugo, Oklahoma. She moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1928, at the age of 13 and attended school in Harlingen, TX. She lived in Harlingen until she married Willis J. Seward, September 13, 1937, at which time she moved to La Feria, TX.
Gertrude moved with her husband, Willis, to Old Solis Road, north of La Feria in 1944. All seven of their children grew up on the farm and attended La Feria schools. The family attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where Gertrude and Willis were married and where all their children were baptized. Gertrude and Willis remained on the farm, until 2003, when they moved to Harlingen, Texas.
Gertrude’s first love was her husband and her family, to whom she gave so tirelessly. She taught her children fairness, honesty and truthfulness, and she told them to always love and be good to each other and others. She had the wonderful ability to make each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all feel equally loved and special. Her children will always remember her for her strength of character and for being the “Best Mother in the World.”
At age fifty-five, Gertrude decided to substitute teach in La Feria. She loved working with the students and they loved her. She always took time with them and was a beacon of love and genuine caring.
Gertrude dedicated the largest part of her life to being a good wife, mother, grandmother, and setting a strong example for her family and those who knew her. She had a great sense of humor and was the personification of strength, love and fairness. Nothing made her light up more than a visit from one of her family or getting to hold or see one of her grandbabies or great-grandbabies and to follow their accomplishments as they got older.
Gertrude is survived by her seven loving children, Sarita Hudson, Jeanne Seward, Stanley Seward, Molly Scott, Susan (Phillip) Holland, Dollye Lee and Willis Daniel (Danny) Seward; grandchildren Rita Hudson (Ted) Spears, Iris Hudson (Ardon) Moore, Lori Hudson (Roy) Smith, Tracey Scott (Casey) McGuire, Shawn Scott (Robbie) Thompson, Becky Lee (Brad) Wisdom, and Stacey Lee; nineteen great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, W.H.
