Gertrude J. Edmondson

July 2, 1918 — January 4, 2010

Harlingen, TX:
Gertrude “Trudi” Edmondson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother joyfully and peacefully went home to her Heavenly Father on January 4, 2010.  Trudi grew up in Kellogg, a small mining town in Idaho, with six brothers and sisters.  As a young woman, she moved to Seattle where, during WWII, she met and married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Edmondson, Sr., who was the most handsome Navy man she’d ever seen.  While she was a wonderful wife, homemaker, and mother, as well as the best scout and camping mom that could be, Trudi was also very talented painter with multiple successful art shows over 30 years to her credit.  Prior to the family’s relocation to Dallas, she briefly worked at the US Corps of Engineers in Seattle and later Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Then, after Robert’s retirement, the former “snow birds” settled down in San Benito at the Fun ‘n’ Sun Trailer Park until 2003.  Trudi’s pursuit of art continued in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, which came to include wood carving, following in her father’s footsteps.  Among her favorite art instructors were Novella Wilson and Arnie Vail at Oakdale Park in Glen Rose, TX, and Norma Knight of Harlingen.
Trudi was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert Edmondson, Sr.; her mother, Mary (Pankratz) Schulhauser; her father, Charles Schulhauser; her sisters Margaret Bowers, Theresa Jacques and Rita Westacott; and her brother Edwin Schulhauser.  She is survived by her children, son, Robert  Edmondson, Jr. (and wife, Sophie); daughter, Judy Edmondson; grandson, Stephen Edmondson (and wife, Jamie); and great grand-daughter, Hazel Edmondson – all of Texas; and by her brother, Walt Schulhauser, of Idaho; and her sister, Helen Zamets, of California.
The family would like to offer special thanks to her wonderful friend John Kunnerth of Harlingen, TX who faithfully brought her communion each week, made her laugh and became another son to her.  Special thanks also go to the staff of Angel Care Assisted Living Center, in Harlingen, especially Belinda, Nellie, Linda, Sandra and Amelia, for the loving care they provided her since 2003.  Thanks also to the staff, especially Sharon, of CIMA Hospice of McAllen, TX.  All of you made her ending days comfortable and peaceful and as enjoyable as possible for her, (especially the mariachis for her last birthday!).
A memorial gathering and service will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Deacon Gilberto Perez, officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Harlingen Art Forum at www.harlingenartforum.com  or to the charity of your choice.
