Gerardo Rios

October 15, 1943 — January 13, 2019

Gerardo Rios passed away on Sunday January 13, 2019. He died in exactly the same way he lived – on his own terms, surrounded by family, and having recently consumed a Bud Light. Gerardo was born October 13, 1943 in Montemorelos, Mexico, the youngest of seven children. He honorably served our country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return, he met Angelica Dominguez, the love of his life, and promptly married her. Fittingly, he liked to tell people that he met her as he was running from the police.

Gerardo collected friends and stories like others might collect stamps or baseball cards. For those who had the privilege of knowing him, he had a special charm – punctuated by a big smile and tall tales – that always filled the room. His generosity was legendary. There was never a favor too great and never a tab too large. As one might expect, these qualities made him best friends with nearly everyone he encountered.

Gerardo is survived by his wife of 50 years, Angelica; his daughters Dilia (Gregg) and Yvette (Jason); his son Jerry (Nicole); his grandchildren Justin, Matthew, Sofia, Kaitlyn, and Madison; his brothers Israel (Corina) and Ariel (Celia); and his adorable dog Chula. He was immensely dedicated to his family and took special joy in his role as the grandparent who loved to spoil the kids.

Services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home at 710 Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen, Texas on Saturday, January, 19 at 11am. His immense spirit will eternally occupy our memories.
