Gerald “Jerry” Sondock, 94, born in Houston, Texas and lifelong resident of Harlingen, Texas passed away October 18, 2021. He was the son of the late Ned and Tillie Sondock. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marvin Sondock.
He graduated from Harlingen High School and then attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. During World War II, Jerry put his college education on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country. After completing his military service, he returned to college and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1949.
Jerry was a retail business owner, real estate agent, and an active member of the Harlingen community. He was a state officer of the Jaycees, a member of the Harlingen Rotary Club, Shriners and Temple Beth Israel. He was a licensed pilot and loved serving on the Harlingen Airport Board. He was also an avid golfer and played in the Life Begins at Forty golf tournaments for years.
Jerry married the love of his life, Shirley Hunt Sondock; they spent 48 wonderful years together. Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife, Shirley; their four daughters, Kathy Bauer, Brenda Kristof, Marla Turner and Ann McNabb; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Graveside services and interment with full military honors will take place Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park, 14166 Business 83, in La Feria, Texas.
