George William Groves was born on December 20, 1924 in Ursa Illinois and passed away on April 12, 2015 in Harlingen, Texas. He was the third child of Mark Webb Groves and Katherine Sauble Groves.
A World War II veteran George served his country in England, France and the South Pacific until his honorable discharge in July 1946.
After his service George enrolled at Western Illinois College where he met the love of his life Ruth Norma Harrison. George and Ruth were married in September 1950 and remained happily married for almost 60 years until Ruth’s death in 2010. Longtime residents of Harlingen they were members of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
George is survived by his children, Mary (Robert) Snyder and children Kara and Benjamin; John (Brenda) Groves and children Charlie (Chelsea), Benjamin and Caroline; William (Susan) Groves and children Jacob (Jennifer), Nicole (Chad), and Kristian; Mark (Konnie) Groves and children David (Pamela), Joshua, Jennifer, Katherine, Sarah (Phil), and Jessie; Nicholas (Pamela) Groves and children Nicholas (Sarah Margaret), Matthew (Courtney), and Tyler; Robert Groves and children Natalie and John; Daniel (Debra) Groves and children Andrew, Bethany, and Kaitlyn; Patrick (Carrie) Groves and children Alex and Jack; Christian (Jeanette) Groves and children Jenna and Nathan; and 12 great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his brother Charles Groves, and sister Mary Tuttle.
The family would like to thank Yvette Cano Adams for the wonderful care and attention she gave our father.
Visitation hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a rosary service being held at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Thursday April 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lawrence Klein officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to St. Anthony’s Catholic School, 1015 E. Harrison, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
