George “Hays” Gray Jr., passed away Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at his home in San Antonio with family at his side.
Hays, 72, was born in Harlingen Texas in 1935 to George and Vera Gray.  Hays played football and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1953.
Hays married Jo Ann Williams in 1955 and together they raised two wonderful sons, Charles Hays Gray of Houston and Stephen Daniel Gray.
Hays is survived by his son Charles Hays Gray of Houston; two grandchildren, Daniel Hays and Amie Nicole Gray of Ft. Worth; two brothers, Doug (Jeanelyn) Gray of Dallas and Terry (Nancy) Gray of Harlingen; Brothers-in-law, F.D. (Lola) Williams of Bertrum and Phil (Kim) Williams of San Antonio; nieces and nephews including Leanne Dew, Christina (Darril) Stafford, Taylor and Stephen Gray.
Hays was preceded in death by his parents, George Hays Gray Sr. and Vera M. Gray; wife, Jo Ann Gray and his son Stephen Daniel Gray.
As a Project Superintendent for Blount Construction, business took Hays and his family to many different places; each home brought new friends and lasting relationships.  Hays and Jo Ann retired in San Antonio in 2002 where Hays could enjoy hunting, fishing and golf with friends and family.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Shofner, Eddie Kirk, and Frank Chapman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX.
Graveside Services will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday February 9, 2008 with Jake Vincent officiating.
For those desiring to do so, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
