RIO HONDO, TX. - George Jessie David, 85, of Rio Hondo, Texas passed from this life on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. He was born in Sugarland, TX on April 20, 1929 to Fred and Christina David.
The family resettled in the Rio Hondo area when he was a young boy. George enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Harlingen High School. While assigned as a medic to a military post in Michigan, he met a sassy and beautiful young lady, Geri-the love of his life.
They were married on March of 1949, and resided in Lake Jackson, Michigan, where George was employed as a machinist with Kelsy Hayes for a number of years. They relocated with their four young sons to Rio Hondo in 1957, where George began to fulfill his lifetime goal of farming. Starting with twenty acres of land left to him by his "Pop" with great effort, perseverance, and a love of the land, George built the farm he dreamed of.
Hunting, fishing, sitting around the Bar-B-Que swapping stories and sharing memories with family and friends were some of his favorite pastimes. George was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who left his family a legacy of success achieved through hard work and dedication. He will be greatly missed.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Geri; his son Donald; his parents Fred and Christina, and his brothers Fred and Frank David.
He is survived by his sons; Edward David and wife Karen of Kerrville, TX, Charles David, Timothy David and wife Mary of Combs, TX; his sister Mary Ann Gusler and husband David of Rio Hondo; his brother Edmund David and wife Jo of Little Rock, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Eddie, Jessica, Chantille, Heather, Becky, Donna, George, Arnold, Josh, Tim, Joseph, Elisabeth and Christian, several great-grand-children, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
