Genobeba Garza Ortega, a native of Lozano, Texas, passed peacefully from this life on March 9, 2018 at the age of 82. She was born on February 14, 1936 to Alfonso Garza and Lucia Moreno Garza. Genobeba was a lifelong member of St. Helen Catholic Church/St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Mission in Lozano, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Ortega, Sr.; her siblings, Jose Garza, Lucia Ramirez, Dionisio Garza, Alejandro Garza, Manuela Ortega, Federico Garza, Cirildo Garza, and Beatriz Govea.
Left to treasure Genobeba’s memory are her children, Elida (Chava) Mota, Juanita (Louie) Duran, Mario (Diana) Ortega, Leonel (Connie) Ortega, Nora (Ron) Lang, Lupita Ortega, Marianita “Anna” (Fred) Lopez, Margarito “Quate” (Mary) Ortega, Domingo, Jr. (Gloria) Ortega, Ovidio (Bertha) Ortega, Jose Alfonso “Joe” (Ida) Ortega; grandchildren, Tommy, Danny, Claudia, Marco, Mario Alberto, Jennifer, Michael, Marcos, Fabio, Gabby, Jessica, Reynaldo II (Peeper), JD, Angelica, Jeneva, Ryan, Lexie, Johnny, Rey, Aaron, Michael, Dominic, Melissa, DJ, Derek, Vicky, Joseph, Josiah, Joey, Jonah, Sarah; 26 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Alfonso Garza, Reynaldo Garza, Cruz Garza, Jose Angel Garza; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, Texas. Following the funeral mass, Genobeba will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are, Tommy Mota, Michael Anthony Ortega, Marcos Leonel Ortega, Reynaldo Gonzalez II, J. D. Martinez, Ryan Lopez, John Dominic Ortega, and Joseph Ortega. Honorary pallbearers will be Genobeba’s grandsons, and great-grandsons.
The Ortega family wishes to thank the ICU staff at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas, Dr. Norma Schacherl, and Dr. M Hilmy II for their compassionate care.
