Genevieve H. Stanteen

Genevieve (Geney) Hawkins Stanteen, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 26th, 2018 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Geney was born January 5, 1944 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Harvey and Ellen Hawkins. Geney was married in 1964 to Wilbron Stanteen, her high school sweetheart. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Harlingen, TX, which they have called home for all of their married life. Geney was a retired school teacher investing in the lives of children at Treasure Hills Elementary and other local schools.  Most recently she was a member of the school board at Calvary Christian School. She was a faithful wife and mother of three boys.

Geney is survived by her husband Wilbron; sons Jeff (Erin) of Spring, TX, Kenny (Cassie) of Clinton, MS, and Larry (Carey) of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren Hunter (Katherine), Chandler, Madeline, Emma Grace, Chelsea, Cade, Logan, and Nathan; and brother Kenneth (Robin) Hawkins, and sisters Judy (Hal) Woodyard and Melinda (Olen) Grubbs.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 from 12 noon to 8:00 pm, with the family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

A celebration of Geney’s life will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 10:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 1815 N 7th Street, Harlingen, TX.
