Gayle Carter Hamilton

July 1, 1956 — January 26, 2019

Gayle Carter Hamilton was 62 and living in Lyford, Texas when she died Saturday, January 26th, 2019.  She was in the care of the Sunshine Haven Hospice in Olmito, Texas.

Born in Dallas, Texas in July of 1956; she was adopted by Guy and Nina Carter.  She had an older brother.  She grew up mostly in the Dallas area, always on or near horses.   Upon getting her degree and inspired by her parents love of travel; she joined the United States Information Service and was posted to Algiers, Algeria.  That was followed by a tour in West Africa supporting the US Embassies in seven countries.  During those many trips, she met and married her husband Keith.

She continued her globetrotting career into the US Department of State where she enjoyed serving in and to Djibouti, Washington, D.C., Ecuador, Panama, Mexico, Chad, Pakistan, South Africa and Madagascar.    She retired in 2009, moving to Lyford, Texas.  There she continued her lifelong love of travel, horses, dogs and cats.   She was very active with St. Albans Episcopal Church in Harlingen, Texas, especially with the Daughters of the King organization.

During this time, she contacted and had a blessed relationship with her biological father Noel Rather of Dallas, Texas.

She is survived by her husband Keith, their son Curtis of Tulsa, Oklahoma and their daughter Angelina of Lyford.  Her brother Bob of Waldorf, Maryland, cousins Sonja, Jim, Jay and Patricia and her seven half-brothers.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Nina Carter and her biological parents Noel Rather and Ann Bowden.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Albans Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to bluebonnetequine.org; an organization Gayle help with in the past.

Many thanks to the entire Marine Military Academy and St. Albans Episcopal Church families who have shown so much love and support to our family during these times.
