Gayle Louis Clemons, 81, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 27, 2008.
He was born April 3, 1927 in Cumby, Texas to Newt and Vera Clemons. He attended Texas A&M University at College Station and achieved his Masters of Education in 1950 from Texas A&M at Commerce, Texas.
He served in the military forces during World War II with the Navy and later served with the Army Reserves. He married Bobbie Jeanette Reynolds in 1951 and had 4 children. He was employed by the PSJA ISD as a teacher. He then served as an elementary school principal for the Donna ISD, Weslaco ISD, and Los Fresnos ISD. He retired in 1985 from education and then worked for the Agricultural Inspection Service.
He was actively involved in the First Christian Churches at Weslaco and Harlingen. He served in multiple capacities including teacher, deacon, and elder. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Donna, Texas for 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Clemons. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Clemons; daughters: Kathy Williams (Gary) from San Marcos, TX; Carol Schmitt (Mark Gibbs) from McAllen, TX; sons: Gary Clemons (Marcella) from Harlingen, TX; Kyle Clemons (Michele) from Garland, TX; 6 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins and second cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29th, at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Harlingen, Texas with Pastor Mark Coppins officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
His family would like to give special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who provided such dedicated care, especially Dr. Todd Shenkenberg and his staff.
