Gary Lee Shield, 64, went to be with his Lord the afternoon of Saturday, August 5, 2017. The resident of Harlingen, TX passed away with friends and family at his side.
Born in Las Vegas, NV on December 27, 1952, he grew up in Throckmorton, TX with one sibling. He attended and graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington where he met his wife of 41 years, Cheryl. They married April 2, 1976 in Granbury, TX, moved to Denton, TX where Gary received his Master's at Texas Women's University, and later raised one son, Tyler in Harlingen, TX.
Gary was a man of God who served the Lord and loved Him with all his heart, soul, and mind. He was a man of the highest moral integrity and honor who will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed.
Gary is survived by his adoring wife, Cheryl and loving son, Tyler, as well as his nieces and nephews, Annie Allen, Laura Blackwell, Ellery Francisco, Jr., Ian Francisco, Shelby Francisco, Angela Roper and Brian Shield. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ellery Francisco with wife, Anita, and his sister-in-law, Sondra Roper. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Lou Shield, as well as his older brother, Frank "Skipper" Shield.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held Wednesday, August 9 at 2:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
