Gamaliel Olvera, 80, of San Benito went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. His pastimes included collecting antique model cars and dancing and listening to Mexican folk music. He was friendly to all he met. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, his children and all his friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother-Catalina Gonzalez, father Herculano Olvera, sons-Reynaldo Olvera, Gilberto Olvera, granddaughters-Clarissa Yvette Olvera, Baby Olvera and Aimee Keiko Olvera.
He is survived by his wife Celerina Olvera. Children-Ricardo (Blanca) Olvera, Round Rock; Noami “Mimi”(Charles) York, Grand Prairie; Rosalinda “Rosie” (Frank+) Romo, San Benito; Maria “Lulu” (Joe) Mesa, Harlingen; David (Dollie) Olvera; daughter-in-law Norma Olvera; brothers, Cain Olvera, Sr,. and Mauro Gonzalez, sisters-Gloria Hernandez, Sylvia De La Cruz and Maria Stout, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and cousins.
The pallbearers for his funeral are Ricardo Olvera, David Olvera, Joe Mesa III, Tomas Flores, Jr., Alec Mesa, and Sergio Romo. The honorary pallbearers are Charles York, Sr., Alonso Olvera and Cenobio Martinez, Jr.
The family will be having a service on Friday, July 23, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. holy rosary to be held that same evening.
Mass will be held at St. Teresa Catholic Church on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
Internment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
