Frank Orson William Sommerfeldt, 89, of Harlingen, Texas, died Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Angelcare Homes in Harlingen, TX. He was born May 26, 1934 in Reeve, WI to Frank and Helen (Olson) Sommerfeldt.
Frank attended Clear Lake, WI high school, and went to work at Andersen Corporation in Bayport, MN upon graduation. He married Phyllis McKee on August 20, 1954. They had one daughter, Gerri Lynn. They divorced in 1977 but were reunited in 1986.
Frank loved to golf and was active in the Osman Shrine Clown Club in St. Paul, MN. He was also active in local politics and served as mayor of Oak Park Heights for ten years.
Frank retired from Andersen’s in 1991 after 41 years. In 2000, they moved from Oak Park Heights, MN to Harlingen, TX where he continued to enjoy golfing.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Bob Essig.
Frank is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his daughter, Gerri (Jeff) Boutelle; his grandsons, Heith Webber (Brenda Runk) and Ross Webber (Lacey); his great-grandchildren, Jacob (13), Kandice (8), and Ella (6) Webber; his sisters, Dianne Burri (Armin) of Clayton, WI and Marietta Essig of Nashville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Harlingen, TX.
In lieu of flowers, Frank would prefer donations to the Salvation Army, 201 E. Monroe Ave, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
