HARLINGEN:
Frank A. Elam, 88, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Frank was born December 30, 1918 in Falls City, Nebraska to August E. and Mabel Pearson Elam. He was devoted husband, father, grandfather and neighbor and decorated WWII carrier pilot. Frank was a longtime Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was talented high school and college football player and was recognized as one of the best players of the century in his hometown. Frank successfully managed several C.R. Anthony department stores for over 30 years. He was a lovely gentleman and always conducted himself with honor and dignity.
Frank was a graduate of Falls City Nebraska High School and attended the University of Nebraska for two years, before joining the U.S. Navy. While in the U.S. Navy, he took Naval Pilot training and fighter pilot training as an aircraft carrier pilot. Frank was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in battle in the South Pacific during WWII.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Nancy) Elam and James P. Elam; grandchildren, David C. (Lisa) Elam, Elizabeth Elam, Theresa (Jay) Piersall, Jentry Elam and Jordan Elam; great grandchildren, William, Sara and David Piersall; sister, Jean Huffman; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Mary Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Elam in May 16, 2002.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2007, 11 a.m., at Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles Palmer officiating. Burial will be private.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Woods, Leland Martin, Charlie Feldman, Fred Mann, Neil Hamon and the members of the Harlingen Rotary Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to be made to the Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church, 2120 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, Texas 78850 or the Harlingen Rotary Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1987, Harlingen, Texas 78551-1987.
