Frances V. Salazar

December 3, 1936 — November 22, 2013

Frances Vasquez Salazar, 76, of Harlingen, TX, lost a long battle with Dementia/Alzheimers Disease on November 22, 2013.

Born on December 3, 1936 in Rio Hondo, TX to Rosa and Francisco Vasquez, she was raised in Los Fresnos and graduated from Los Fresnos High School in 1956.

On December 7, 1958, she married Jose “Pepe” Salazar of San Benito.  Together they raised a family of three: Olga, Jose “Junior” and Javier.

Frances’ career as a Sr. Administrative Assistant spanned more than 40 years, starting at First National Bank in Harlingen and ending at Coastal Bank.

In her spare time, Frances loved to cook-- everything she made was delicious.  She took great pride in cooking for her friends and family (especially her grandchildren)-- a generous trait that was apparent in all her motivations.  Frances’ frijoles, menudo and flour tortillas were a thing of legend.

After joining Northway Bible Church (Harlingen) in the late 80s, she began devoting much of her time and resources to helping establish and grow the congregation of Pastor Kelly Rumfield.

Preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Vasquez and Rosa Gonzales Vasquez, husband Jose Maria Salazar son Javier Salazar and siblings, Maria Vanecek, Epifanio Vasquez, Felipa Sandoval and Gilberto Vasquez.

Survivors include: Daughter Olga Lydia Ingels, and son Jose Maria Salazar, Jr. Grandchildren Ashley Nichols, Lindsay Wallick, Oliver Ingels, 2nd Lt. Joshua Caleb Ingels, Christopher Ingels, Samuel Ingels, Javier Salazar Jr. and John Ray Salazar. Great grandchildren Felicity Nichols, Adelaide Wallick, Victoria Wallick, and Sophia Salazar. Siblings Crispin Vasquez, Santiago (Jimmy) Vasquez, Isabel Reed, Anita Sherrill, and Frank Vasquez Jr.

Visitation will be held at San Benito Funeral Home on Sunday, December 1 from 4-9 pm.  A short service will begin at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2 at 10 am, followed by a procession to Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Oliver Ingels, 2nd Lt. Joshua Caleb Ingels, Christopher Ingels, Samuel Ingels, Javier Salazar Jr. and John Ray Salazar.

Honorary Pallbearers are Frank Vasquez, Jr. and Paul Navarrette.
