Frances Pederson

April 20, 1926 — August 7, 2015

Frances Pederson of Los Fresnos, Texas passed away at her residence on Friday, August 7, 2015. Frances, born on April 20, 1926, was the daughter of the late S.J. and Clairbel Brownlow Irwin.  She was born and raised in Floresville, Texas where she participated in various civic and school activities.  She was valedictorian of her high school class and was an English major at Texas A&I in Kingsville where she met and fell in love with the late E.P. “Sonny” Pederson.  Sonny and Frances married in 1945 and settled in Los Fresnos.
Frances was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist church in Los Fresnos where she served on various committees and sang in the choir for sixty years.  She served as a member of the Junior Service League, in the Women’s Society of Christian Service, and on the board of the Ethyl Whipple Memorial Library. In the late fifties up through the seventies, she took part in community theatre, musicals, and fashion modeling.  Aside from her family, one of her biggest passions was singing.  Her soprano voice was just as sweet and soothing as her physical beauty and personality. In her youth, she sang in her school and church choirs while later in life she sang in countless weddings and other social events.  She sang the National Anthem in the early days of the Los Fresnos Fair & Rodeo and on occasion at Los Fresnos Falcon home football games.
Mom loved interaction and socializing.  After raising four sons, she entered the workforce taking a job at Tropical Savings & Loan where she worked for many years in both Los Fresnos and Harlingen and then moving over to Los Fresnos State Bank for several years where she retired briefly until being coaxed out of retirement to return to the bank doing a job that she was the absolute best at, public relations.  She truly loved interacting with people.  Mom never found fault in anyone always stressing that good existed in everyone.  She always emphasized that if you did not have anything good to say not to say anything at all.
Mom was as genuine, true, and sincere as they come.  A devout Christian, she lived her life traveling the righteous path. Mom always maintained that her biggest accomplishment and success was the Lord blessing her with four sons but, in reality, it is the four of us who have been blessed to have had the closest thing to an angel on earth for a mother. Our dear mother, our angel on earth, has simply ascended back to where she came from, the heavens.  She is home.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband, E.P. “Sonny” Pederson; Parents: S.J. & Clairbel Brownlow Irwin and sister, JoAnn Irwin. Surviving are her four sons, E.J. “Jere” Pederson of Galveston, TX, Jon (Denise) Pederson of Los Fresnos, TX, Mark (Kay) Pederson of Midland, TX, Paul (Darlene) Pederson of Los Fresnos, TX. Grandchildren: Shelby, Tyra, Kristen, Travis, Chad, Brandon, and Shane.  Great Grandchildren:  Tyler, Chase, Caden & Cason.  Niece and surrogate daughter, Cherie Moller Carrabba of Crockett, TX, and cousins Doris Eschenburg Grant and Diane Grant of Devine, TX. A friend and second mother to her kids, Carmen Castillo of Los Fresnos, TX.  An acknowledgement of gratitude to Merry Lynn Shuckman for being such a close, dear, and attentive friend.
We are so grateful and full of gratitude for mom’s caregivers as they always went above and beyond to ensure her comfort and wellbeing.  Mere words cannot begin to express our indebtedness to Leticia Uribe, Amparo Rodriguez, Maria Guadalupe Gopar, and Misty Cortinas. These ladies were and always will be a blessing.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M with the family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are E.J. “Jere” Pederson, Jon Pederson, Mark Pederson, Paul Pederson, Brandon Pederson and Shane Pederson.
