Harlingen, Texas:
Frances Nan Kennedy Lawler, 69, died January 7, 2008 in Harlingen, Texas after a lengthy illness.
Nan, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Marion R. Lawler, Jr.; her children, Marion R. Lawler III (Marcela) of Rancho Viejo and Karen K. Lawler of Stockbridge, Georgia; grandchildren Maria Lawler, Marion Lawler IV, Max Lawler and Gabrielle Farrar; sisters, Jean Stephens of Nacogdoches and Kay Norwood of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
Nan was born July 17, 1938, in Nacogdoches, Texas to LeRoy and Jamie Kennedy both of whom preceded her in death.  She graduated from Southwestern University with honors and was the president of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta.  She taught school in Houston and Nashville and did psychological clinical research at George Peabody College in Nashville.  She attained a Masters in Psychology from Texas A & I University and practiced clinical psychology for several years. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church, a member of the Junior League of Harlingen, Chapter T of P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the North Cameron-Willacy County Medical Auxillary.  Nan served on the Planned Parenthood board and the alumni board of Southwestern University.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Mark Stephens, John Norwood, Bradley Norwood, John Brown, and Austin Connell, Jaime Guerrero, Jorge de la Garza and Sergio Arguelles.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 11 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held, January 12, 2008, 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 321 E. Harrison, Harlingen with Rev. Steve Purdy officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in San Benito.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 321 E. Harrison, Harlingen, Texas 78550 or the Alzheimers Association, Rio Grande Valley Chapter, 4400 N. Mesa, Suite 9, El Paso, Texas 79902.
