Flora “Flo” Fitch Kennedy passed away peacefully at age 89 in Harlingen, Texas on October 21, 2022. She was born September 27, 1933 in Three Rivers, Texas to her parents William and Hattie Fitch. The family spent their early years in Louisiana before moving to La Feria where she graduated from high school. She worked alongside her husband, Charles Kennedy, Sr., for over 40 years in the family-owned business, The Light House Lighting Center. They were married for 42 years.
Flo is survived by her loving husband, Charles Kennedy, Sr.; her daughters, Penny (Tom) Gautreau and Kathy (Ruben) Salinas; her sons, Larry (Debbie) Walk and Lester (Ronna) Walk; and her brother, Willie (Audrey) Fitch. Her extended family includes Charlie (Tiffaney) Kennedy, Jr., and Beth (Michael) Scaief. She leaves behind five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her three brothers, Willard, Ed, and Dee Fitch.
Flo was a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Benito. She loved boat cruises and traveled to Mexico, Canada, France, Costa Rica and Alaska. Las Vegas was one of her favorite destinations.
She loved her two German Shorthaired Pointers, Ella and Sophie. They were always referred to as her “girls”. She and the “girls” were always up for a golf cart ride around the neighborhood.
Fun loving and compassionate, she was a 25-year survivor of breast cancer. Flo was always the one to get her family together for special occasions. She was well known for her homemade ice cream.
Special thanks to her caregiver and companion, Diana Guerrero. Also, thanks to Lisa and Kenny Salazar along with the caring staff of The Spear Home and the staff of Kindred Hospice.
