Federico Lopez, Jr. (F.L.), 92, died peacefully at home August 16, 2010.
He was born June 3, 1918 to Federico and Petra Lopez in Harlingen, Texas. As a boy he enjoyed spending time with his two grandfathers and playing neighborhood baseball. When his father became ill, FL at age 16 did not return to school, instead he took to the road in his dad’s panel truck and began a 69 year life as a traveling salesman.
The two Lopez salesmen covered a territory from Laredo to the Hill Country, Victoria and south to the valley. Federico Lopez, Sr. and son built Valley Barber and Beauty Supply into the thriving wholesale business it is today, while the giant companies of the 1940’s and 1950’s they competed against are no longer in business.
He was preceded in death by his parents Federico and Petra Lopez, Sr., sisters Francisca, Mary Lou and Rosie.
He is survived by his wife Connie, his sons Fred, James, Joe and Albert, grandchildren James, Jr., Terri, Dominic, Javier, Dori Lopez, Joe, Jr., Myra White, Laura and Melissa Lopez, Jackie Lopez; four great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 11:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with the holy rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.
The funeral procession will depart the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Deacon Juan Valenzuela as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Garza-Chapa Cemetery in Linn, TX.
Pallbearers will be Ret. General Fred Lopez, III, James X. Lopez, Joseph E. Lopez, James X. Lopez, Jr., Dominic Lopez , and Joseph E. Lopez, Jr.
