Veteran police officer and San Benito, Texas native, Ezequiel “Zeke” Torres, 65, peacefully passed on April 29, 2023 at his home in San Benito. He was born April 14, 1958 to the late Vicente and Maria Elena Torres.
Zeke was a graduate of San Benito High School and a proud Greyhound. He went on to attend Texas Southmost College and, in 1983, Zeke graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology. He was a police officer with the San Benito Police Department. He retired in 2014 after having faithfully served his community for thirty years.
In his leisure time, Zeke enjoyed playing chess and fishing, and was an avid toy collector. He was also a music lover and a movie buff.
Zeke is preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and María Elena Torres; brother, Ismael Torres who passed at the age of seven; his youngest sister, Norma Linda Torres; and his brother-in-law, Eli Rodriguez.
Left to treasure Zeke’s memory is his loving wife of thirty-six years, Delia S. Torres; daughter, Jenny Maxine Torres; his siblings, Felix (Patricia) Torres, Mary (Victor) De La Cruz, Eloy Torres, María Magdalena (Amy) De Vore, Israel Torres, Patricia Rodriguez, and Ismael (Irma) Torres; and brother-in-law, Eusebio “Chevy” (Rosemary) Salazar.

The Torres family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 4, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito. Cremation will follow.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Milton Resendez, Manuel Cisneros, Albert Reyes, Omar Garza, Napoleon Mireles, and Arturo Flores. Eusebio “Chevy” Salazar Jr., Eusebio Christopher Salazar, José Miguel Ipina, Rey De La Cruz, Roberto Mendiola, and Jaime Mata will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to honor Zeke with a memorial donation in his name to the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Cameron and Willacy Counties (caccwc.org).
