Eva Ybarra Martinez, a lifetime resident of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 79 years of age. She was born January 23, 1943 to the late Andres Ybarra and Angelita Villareal Ybarra in San Benito.
Eva was a proud graduate of San Benito High School, Class of 1962. She worked for Moxley Cleaners in downtown San Benito for 29 years. She then went to work at Rio Grande State Center as a Laundry Supervisor and retired from there.
She was a very talented and popular seamstress. Eva was a devout member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and frequently gave of her time and talents to church events as a church volunteer. In her leisure time, Eva enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and watching comedy shows on TV.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Angelita V. Ybarra; her sister, Herminia Ybarra Jaime; and her ex-husband, Gregorio U. Martinez.
Left to treasure Eva’s memory is her daughter, Patricia A. Maldonado (Robert) of Cypress, Texas; three grandchildren, Robert Trae Maldonado, Christopher Matthew Maldonado, and Ava Rose Maldonado; sisters, Frances Barrera and Alicia Ybarra; and brothers, Andres Ybarra and Carlos Ybarra.
The Martinez family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Thursday evening at 7 o’clock. (Click the link below to view a live-stream of the Rosary.) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Joe Villalón, Jr., Celebrant. Following the Mass, Eva will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Robert Maldonado, Jr., Robert Trae Maldonado, Christopher M. Maldonado, Toby Herrera, and Gabriel M. Herrera.
