Eva P. Jeffries

Eva Pettus Jeffries, passed away peacefully in Harlingen, Texas, on December 28, 2016.
Known affectionately as “Sweet Pea” to family and friends, she was born August 3, 1914, in Crupp, Mississippi, to Boyd Thomas Pettus Sr. and Ida Fisher Pettus.  Eva lived for many years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she worked for the Louisiana Department of Revenue.  She was a longtime member of the Hooper Road Baptist Church.  In 2000, she and her husband, Walter Leon (Jeff) Jeffries, became permanent residents of Fun N Sun in San Benito, Texas. Jeff and Sweet Pea celebrated 72 years of marriage before his death in 2007. She lived a long and happy life and will be greatly missed.
Eva was preceded in death by her three brothers, Albert Frank, E.C., and Thomas Pettus. She is survived by her daughter Jean Davison of San Benito and Burlington, Vermont, and by her granddaughter and her husband, Jenn and Bill Smith of Burlington as well as great-grandsons Karol, Ben, Davison, and Fulton, great-granddaughters Emilie and Jianna, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A graveside service was performed at the Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, Mississippi on Wednesday, January 4.
The family would like to thank all Eva’s caregivers, especially Merida hospice and the wonderful staff of Angel Care in Harlingen, Texas.
