HARLINGEN, TX:
Funeral services for Eugene Philip “Gene” Muller, 91, of Harlingen, TX formerly of Mankato, MN are schedule for 3 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2007 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr. Harlingen, TX. The Reverend Bill Reagan will officiate. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Cemetery in Mankato, MN.
He was born March 30, 1915 in Holloway, MN to the late Edward George and Marie Zamrzla Muller. He lived his childhood in Milltown, WI and was the eldest of 8 children. He was active in school activities and during his senior year the American Legion honored him by awarding him a medal for outstanding boy.
Mr. Muller attended business college in Minneapolis, MN and later moved to Mankato where he became manager of Guaranteed Gravel and Sand Co.
He met Grace Knudson of Taylor, ND, they were married December 1939.
During World War II, Mr. Muller was drafted into the U.S. Army as Sergeant. He served as cadryman and trained many troops for assignment in Europe and the Far East, after the war he returned to Mankato to work for various construction companies and eventually became part owner of Mankato Aglime and Rock Co.
Mr. Muller was active in various organizations where he served as president such as American Legion, SCORE and Minnesota Lime Stone Producers Association. After moving in 1999 to Harlingen he helped teach reading to 3rd graders at Combes and Long Elementary Schools.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Grace Muller in Mankato, MN in March and in September 1995 his son, Larry.
He met and married Betty Jane “BJ” Baerlin in May 31, 2001. In September 2003 He became ill and BJ kept him at the home and took care of him.
He is survived by his wife BJ Baerlin Muller; his sons, John and wife, Joan of Tyler, TX and Miles and his wife, Suzanna of Staples, TX; four grandchildren, Paul Muller of Houston, TX, Annika Muller Conaway of Tyler, TX, Heidi Muller Warren of Ft. Collins, CO, and Edward P. Muller of Rockwall, TX; five great grandchildren, Annelise and Christine Conaway of Tyler, TX, Katherine and Alexandra Muller of Rockwall, TX, and Miriam Muller of Houston, TX; his sister, Harriet Muller Kaufman of St. Paul, MN; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. till service time on Friday, March 2, 2007 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
