Ernst Adolph Gottmann, 87, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Harlingen Medical Center.
Ernst was born March 29, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Ernst Adolph Gottmann and Neva Heckel Gottmann. He married Velma S. Dicus-Gottmann on November 25, 1985.
Ernst graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana with a B.S. Management Economics, Major, from Salmon Chase College of Law, and the North Kentucky University in Cincinnati, OH with a Juris Prudence Degree. He was a professor at Texas State Technical College at Harlingen, Texas teaching Business Law and Government and retired on Thursday the 27th of August 2009.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII; enlisting at Chicago, Illinois in 1943 and did his basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Ernie served two years in Germany with Patton’s Army in Company 1, the Third Battalion, the 341st Infantry and 86th Infantry Division.
Ernst was a member of the Rio Hondo Baptist Church. Ernst enjoyed gardening and teaching.
He is survived by his wife Velma S. Dicus-Gottmann; sons, Mark E. (Christina) Gottmann of Santa Clara, CA and David A. (Lynn) Gottmann of Stratton, CO; daughters, Nancy L. (Don) Selvidge, Deborah S. Davis; grandchildren, Shane Stewart, Amanda Hendrix, Misty Kelly, Samantha Selvidge, Shelby Selvidge, Shawn Davis, Brianna (Matthew) Kastner, Brandon (Erin) Hill; and great grandchildren, Hailey Kelly, Allyssa Hendrix, Wyatt Stewart, and Isabel Hill.
Ernst was preceded in death by his parents Ernst and Neva Gottmann of Glenview, Illinois and daughter, Sharon E. Gottmann of Dallas, TX.
A memorial service celebrating Ernst’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at Rio Hondo Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Huff, his favorite nurse Gracie for all the loving care they gave Ernst the past 20 years and to our loving church family at Rio Hondo Baptist Church.
