Ernesto Tamez, Sr.

Ernesto Tamez Sr. 92, passed away peacefully August 17, 2023 in Harlingen, Texas.  He was born to the late Genaro Villarreal Tamez and Camila Gonzalez Tamez on September 9, 1930 in Postas Blancas, Texas.

Ernesto worked as a farmer and later went on to become a mechanic. He was a catholic and taught his children the importance of faith. In his leisure time, Ernesto enjoyed fishing. If you stopped or passed by his Savino Ranch you would find him outside sitting in his garage drinking a beer and waving to everybody.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Genaro Villarreal Tamez and Camila Gonzalez Tamez, his loving wife, Alberta Carrizalez Tamez; daughter, Carmelita Tamez; son, Alfredo Tamez; daughter,  Rosalva Tamez; his brothers, Carlos Tamez and Abelardo Tamez; sister, Margarita Hernandez; great granddaughter, Shaniyah Elaine Kendrix; and daughter-in-law, Reyna Tamez.

Left to treasure Ernesto’s memory are his children, Blanche Estelle Tamez (Gerado), Mary Elma Gutierrez (Genaro), Ernesto Tamez Jr, Jenaro Tamez (Yolanda), Janie Tamez (Lupe), Reynaldo Tamez (Olivia), Sandra Alicia Tamez, Norma Imelda Tamez, and Lupita Tamez (Jesse); his sister, Carmen Rodriguez; 31 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

The Tamez Family would like to Thank the nurses and staff at Treasure Hills HealthCare Center and Allstate Hospice for the care and attention given to Ernesto.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  The recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Monday evening.  A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Genaro Gutierrez, Ernesto Tamez, Orlando Cruz, Nelson Zamora, Andy Zamora, and Devon Robinson.  Ernesto Tamez Jr., Jenaro Tamez, Reynaldo Tamez Sr. and Alfredo Tamez Jr. (Representing +Alfredo Tamez Sr.) will serve as honorary pallbearers.
