Ernesto Ortega

Ernesto Ortega peacefully passed on March 8, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born May 8, 1938 to the late Celestino Ortega and Consuelo Pesina Ortega in Las Yescas, Texas.

Ernesto was a longtime, valued employee of Niños Head Start where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Manuela G. Ortega; his daughter, Lucia Ortega Flores; his parents, Celestino and Consuelo P. Ortega; and his brother, Celestino Ortega, Jr.

Left to treasure Ernesto’s memory are his children, Ernesto Ortega Jr. (Monica), José Ricardo Ortega (Carmen), Norberto Ortega, Leticia Ortega, Minerva De La Rosa (Ted), Erica Ortega Cruz (Omar); grandchildren, Ernesto Ortega III, Cassandra Ortega, Christie Esparza, Fidel Esparza III, Brianna Lopez, Kimberly Ortega, Joseph Ortega, Roberto Villalobos Jr., Adriana Almeda, Valerie Montelongo, José Flores III, Nayda Flores, Nicolas Cruz, Alayna Cruz, Ted De La Rosa III, Danielle Cole, Robert De La Rosa; and numerous great grandchildren.

The Ortega family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, March 10, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Lozano, Texas. Following the Mass, Ernesto will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Roberto Villalobos Jr., Nicolas Cruz, Fidel Esparza III, Ernie Ortega III, José Flores III, and Arturo Almeda. Reily Jett Villalobos and Brayden Lopez will serve as honorary pallbearers.
