Enid Eva Johnson

June 21, 1921 — May 20, 2015

Harlingen, TX:
Enid Eva Johnson passed from this life entering into heaven on May 20, 2015.  She was 93 years of age, only lacking 13 days of being 94.
Enid was born in Minot, North Dakota to Carl and Irene Rickford. At age 2 she traveled with her parents to reside in Santa Rosa, Texas where she graduated from high school.  She attended Pan American College in Edinburg, graduating with a degree in education.  She taught third grade in Sebastian, Texas for a few years.
After graduation, Enid married her sweetheart Chester Johnson. A few years later, when their daughter Beatrice was 3 months old, Chester was called to serve in World War II.  Though it was a heart wrenching separation, she remained strong until he was able to return 2 years later.
Enid chose to become a stay at home mom raising her four children, being involved in all their activities, along with staying by the side of her farming husband.  She was busy with membership in the Lyford PTA, Lyford Women’s Club and Bethel Lutheran Church Women’s Group.  She and Chester were active members of the church in Lyford where she taught Sunday School for many years.  Their church life was a very important part of their family life, raising up their children according to God’s Word.
She and Chester lived in Lyford until Chester retired from farming and they moved to Golden Palms.  Living in Harlingen they then became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
After Chester’s death in 1999 Enid remained an active member at St. Paul and was also a part of many activities at Golden Palms.
Because Enid and Chester enjoyed walking for exercise, she became a leading member of the Golden Palms Walking Club.  Daily she would walk the corridors of Golden Palms, keeping track of the many miles she walked.
Enid participated in different events and valued the friendships she made.  It was fun for her to gather with friends at the deli, watching the birds feed on the food she provided for many years and hearing many good stories being told.  Her many friends appreciated her sweet spirit, loving smile and kind words that she continually shared.
Enid is survived by her 3 children, Beatrice (Drew) Sims of Harlingen, Beverly (Larry) Franks of Harlingen and Darrel (Grace) Johnson of Rio Hondo, daughter-in-law Debby Johnson of Harlingen, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Irene Rickford, husband Chester Johnson and son Kenneth Johnson.
A memorial service for Enid will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen, Texas on Monday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Loaves and Fishes, P.O. Box 248, Harlingen, TX 78551 or to World Impact Now Ministries, P.O. Box 530044, Harlingen, TX 78553.
