Elvira Rodriguez, 81, passed away peacefully February 11, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas. She was born December 17, 1943, in San Benito to Martias Vega and Estela Gaona Vega.
Elvira was a dedicated member of Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary. She cherished her leisure time spent playing Chalupa and Bingo with family, listening to music, cooking, and enjoying laughter in the company of her loved ones. Known for her generous spirit, Elvira had a big heart and always sought to lend a helping hand. She also held a deep affection for her pets and enjoyed dancing, watching soap operas, and caring for her plants.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ramiro Rodriguez; her father, Martias Vega; her mother, Estela Gaona; as well as her brothers, Roger Vega and Arturo Vega; and her sister, Maria V Pena. Elvira is survived by her children, Carlos Romero, Alicia Zamilpa, David Zamilpa, Abraham Rodriguez, and Jacobo Rodriguez; her eight stepchildren; and her grandchildren, Carlos Romero Jr., Hilario Romero, Lisa Romero, Felisa Tristan, Antonio Hernandez, and Salvador Hernandez Jr. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Bell Hernandez, Adrian Hernandez, Noah Hernandez, Isabella Romero, Hilario Romero Jr, Daniel Alejandro Tristan, and Diego Sebastian Tristan. She is also remembered by her siblings, Ignacio Vega, Ernesto Vega, Ramiro Vega, Teresa Rodriguez, Irena Salinez, and Elida Cavazos.
The Rodriguez family will receive friends and family on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 o’clock Monday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Elvira will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jacobo Rodriguez, Abraham Rodriguez, David Zamilpa, Antonio Hernandez, Salvador Hernandez, and Ramiro Vega.
