Harlingen:
Elsie Marie Haynes, 91, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Harlingen Medical Center.
Elsie was born on August 20, 1916 in Jenny Lind, Arkansas to Dora Ray and John T. Finley. She was a longtime resident of the Harlingen area and worked as a waitress for many years at Sammy’s Red Barn, Richard’s Restaurant and the San Benito Elks Lodge. She was an independent spirit who believed in hard work and dedication. Her greatest treasures were her family, good friends, and especially her grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by her sons, Claude (Olga) Haynes, Jerry Haynes (Barbara) and Charles Haynes; daughter, Annalee Hailey; daughter-in-law, Annette Tewell; sister, Marie Varnon; brother, Emery Finley; grandchildren, Claudette Clendennen, Jamie (Mike) Hodes, Jason (Gerry) Haynes, Chrystal (Dominick) Riccio, David Haynes and Michelle Michon; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Haynes, sister, Lilly Warner, brothers, Teauge Finley and Wes Finley; grandsons, John E. Haynes and Claude (Booger) Haynes; and son-in-law, Clifford Hailey.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2008 with Vance Greek officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Friday, July 4, 2008 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family members, Claude Haynes, Jerry Haynes, Jason Haynes, David Haynes, Dominick Riccio and Mike Hodes.
