Elma Foster, 87, of Harlingen, Texas joined her Savior in Heaven on January 4, 2021. Elma was born in El Ranchito, Texas on March 27, 1933 and grew up in Weslaco, Texas. As the eldest daughter, she l eft school as a young teenager to help provide for her mother and two sisters.
Elma was generous with her time and the talents God gave her. She loved to sew and usually had many projects going at one time. She sewed handmade quilts, clothes for her family and others in need, and many sweet Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was also delighted to serve others through her cooking. When she was able, Elma would make over 100 dozen tamales at Christmastime to give as gifts. As many other families do, her own family traditionally gathered together on Christmas Eve to savor her tamales.
Elma also loved to garden and could often be found outside enjoying God’s creation. She was gifted in growing beautiful plants. In so many other ways, Elma loved to serve others because her faith in God taught her, “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Her light did shine before others, and her life glorified her Father in Heaven. (Matt. 5:16)
Elma is survived by her three children: Terry Lee Foster, Robert Wayne Foster, and Sharon Diane Foster. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Justin Hensz (Chenchen,) Oscar Silva (Melissa,) Heather Hicks (Josh,) Shannon Silva, Jacob Farias, Jayson Silva and 9 great grandchildren.
Elma is also survived by her brothers, Paul Coy (Krenna) and Richard Coy, and her sister, Mary Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Foster, her father, Paul Coy, her mother, Rebecca Salazar, her stepfather, Edward Block, and her sister, America Pipes.
The family would like to recognize and thank her caretakers, especially Erika Flores, Mary Tello Hernandez, and Elena Guerra who all dedicated over two years to lovingly care for her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
