Elliott "Rose" Cimino

Elliott “Rose” Cimino, 96, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Harlingen.
Rose was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 1, 1912 to William and Laura Bell.   She worked in a rescue mission in Indiana and was Co-founder of Southern Bible Institute in Knoxville, TN in the late 40’s.  She also was a co-founder of the Gospel Press Printing Co.
Rose was a pastor’s wife for a number of years prior to moving to Harlingen in May of 1964.  She conducted Vacation Bible School from the 50’s to mid 70’s during the summers.  She co-founded Wonderful Word Publishers, a Spanish gospel tract ministry in 1965 and is still in operation today.
Rose found crochet to be her favorite pastime and was someone who loved making something for her friends and family to enjoy.  She loved to sit and watch the birds and tend to her flowers.  She also was an avid fisherwoman.  She was a HOST volunteer for 23 years at Bowie Elementary School during the 80’s and 90’s.
She is survived by son, Paul Cimino (Maria); faithful daughter-in-law, Connie Cimino; sister, Katie Staffen; grandchildren, Mishal Smith (Darryl), D.J. Cimino (Emily), Mary Rose Slaughter, Donna Morrison (Mitch), Renae Cimino, Billy Cimino (Tammy), Betyse Rose Erazo, Kris Mitchell (Steve), Jon Cimino, Rance Cimino, Justin Cimino, Katie Jo Cimino; 18 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws and dear friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Rev.  Dominic “Dick” Cimino, which on May 31, 2009 would have been their 67th year anniversary; sons, Dickie Cimino, Bill Cimino, David Cimino; and sisters, Mickey and Tudie.
Visitation hours will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009, 2 p.m., at Harvest Baptist Church on Freddy Gonzalez Drive in Edinburg with Pastors Dale Yontz and Jerry Brewster officiating.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
