Ella Louise Smith

Dateline: Harlingen: Ella Louise Smith, 92, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Ella was born on November 2, 1914 in Memphis, TN to Frank and Ella Veach.  She was a longtime resident of the Valley having lived in Weslaco and Harlingen.  Ella was a member of the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ in Harlingen and a former member of the Bridge Avenue Church of Christ in Weslaco.

Ella was someone who loved to sew and volunteer her help to anyone, in fact she was  awarded the Volunteers Care Award at Golden Palm's in Harlingen in May 1990.

Ella is survived by her children, Golda L. Gorhum (Billy), James L. Smith (Donna), Barbara K. Cunningham (Bob), Joyce L. Rodgers, Sarah A. Onderdonk (Larry); siblings, Evelyn Hutchins, Richard Veach, Edna Koster, Robert Veach (Martha); 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lubert (Pete) Smith, sister, Mary Veach and her parents.

Visitation hours will be from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family present from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 10:00 AM, Monday, March 26, 2007 with James L. Smith, Matthew Smith and Jake Vincent officiating.  Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, Texas

Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Jacobs, David Chenault, Brent Massey, Tom Fox, David Grady and David Sheppard.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Gerland and the Elders at the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ in Harlingen.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kotta and his staff, and the nurses at Valley Baptist Medical Center and Golden Palms Health Care Center for all their care and concern.
