Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Scheopner

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Grotzinger Scheopner, 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence on Wednesday, April 18.   She was born in Sedalia, Missouri to Walter Joseph and Katherine Margaret Grotzinger on November 5, 1921. She moved to La Feria in December, 1921 by train when she was 6 weeks old.  She worked for the Ration Board during World War II.  After WW II, she worked for the First National Bank of La Feria.   On September 6, 1948, she married Lawrence John Scheopner and began working for the La Feria Independent School District where she served as secretary to numerous superintendents for 46 years before retiring in December, 1995.
She belonged to numerous community groups during her lifetime including Beta Sigma Phi and St. Francis Xavier Church Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lawrence Scheopner, her parents Walter and Katherine Grotzinger, her beloved Aunt Tillie, and her uncles Nick and Frank Lauer.   She is survived by her sister, Loretta Scheopner of La Feria, nephew Jim (Sue) Scheopner, nieces Mary Lorae Scheopner, and Kathy (Mike) Malone all of Harlingen, great nieces and nephew, Kristin Malone, Randy Malone, Leisel (Brad) Koerber, and Heidi Scheopner, and one great-great nephew, Chase Koerber.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday afternoon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La  Feria  at  2:00 p.m.. with Father Plutarco.   After the mass the family will receive friends at the home of Loretta Scheopner for a celebration of Betty’s life.
The family request that memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
