Elizabeth M. Garrett

Elizabeth Myrick Sears Garrett, born February 2, 1918, passed away on April 18, 2015 in her home.  She was a lifelong resident of Harlingen, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Calhoun Myrick and Mary Davison Myrick; her first husband, Paul Everett Sears and her husband of 53 years, Harry James  (Jack) Garrett; sister, Mary Josephine Myrick Jameson; two sons, John Ely Sears, and James Douglas Garrett as well as daughter, Katherine Louise Garrett Whithey.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, is survived by her children: James (Cecilia) Sears of Kingsville, Texas; Jerald (Maricel) Sears, of Harlingen, Texas; and Jo Ann Garrett Long, also of Harlingen, Texas.  Grandchildren:  Cindy (Charles) Foley of Dickinson, Texas; Virginia (Travis) Boyd of Jackson, Georgia;  Christina (Lee) Yeary of Kingsville, Texas; James Jr. (Elizabeth) Sears of Irving, Texas; Amanda (Jeff) Kibler of Harlingen, Texas; Andrea (Kevin) Trapp of Lyford, Texas; Daniel (Heather) Long of Hutto, Texas and Cynthia Garrett.  Elizabeth has 29 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by 2 nephews:  Reese and Parker Jameson and their families.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Harlingen High School and received an Education degree from Sol Ross College in Alpine, Texas.   Elizabeth was employed for over 30 years in the Harlingen Independent School District.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church for a total of 74 years.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Contemporary Study Club, the Women’s Circle of Harlingen, the Cultural Arts Center and the Historical Society.   After retirement, she volunteered many hours to the HOST Program and the Literacy Center of Harlingen.
When asked one time what all she would say about her life, she said only “that she lived and died”.  She was a loving, generous Christian who lived her faith well.  Elizabeth will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 1:00 PM, at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria with Rev. Charlie Palmer officiating.
